A Catechist is one who gives instruction in the Catholic faith by way of echoing the teachings of Jesus. This is done through classroom instructions, living one’s life as an example of discipleship, prayer, trust and love.
What is required of a Catechist?
All Catechists must be 21 years of age and confirmed in the Catholic faith.
Attend Mass faithfully and participate in the sacraments.
Comply with the Diocese of Baton Rouge in having a background check run and agree to abide by the Code of Ethics of the Diocese of Baton Rouge for those having close contact with children.
Attend the formation/training days, retreat for Catechists, and teacher meetings which are hosted and facilitated by the Religious Education Staff.
Agree to follow the grade curriculum developed for the grade one is teaching.
Be responsive to students, be prepared for each lesson, and be prompt for class.
All Catechists are provided with a curriculum appropriately designed for their grade. This includes all supplies, media resources, lesson plans, undivided support from your grade Coordinator and Director of Religious Education.
